Awards deadline extended for pioneering British businesswomen

If you or someone you know is a female business leader, setting standards and smashing barriers, you have until the end of Friday 16th April to put in an entry for the First Women Awards.

The awards aim to identify “the most pioneering women in British business, science and professional life”

There are nine sector-specific categories:

  • Manufacturing
  • Tourism and Leisure
  • Finance
  • Science & Technology
  • Media
  • Retail & Consumer
  • Property
  • Public Sector
  • Business Services

In addition, there are two special categories:

  • The First Women Business of the Year Award
  • PwC Lifetime Achievement Award

Previous winners of the PwC Lifetime Acheivement Award include Val Gooding CBE, CEO of BUPA and Ann Gloag OBE, Founder of Stagecoach.

Shortlisted nominees will be asked to attend an informal judging session on 14th May in London.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 23rd June at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. Tickets to the ceremony cost £175 +VAT, which includes a champagne reception and three-course meal.

If your business is one of the many in the transport and logistics sector that is challenging the stereotype of a mainly male workforce, you should enter the MAN Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards 2010.

The aim of these awards is to celebrate the talents, enthusiasm and dedication of the female portion of the workforce in the industry, and inspire others to consider it as an option.

There are seven categories available for entry this year:

  • Rising Star of the Year Award
  • Commercial Driver of the Year Award
  • Director of the Year Award
  • The Warehousing Award
  • Industry Trainer of the Year Award
  • Team of the Year Award
  • Woman of the Year Award

In order to make a nomination it is necessary to join the Everywoman network.

Nominations are free, but must be received by Wednesday 10th February 2010 in order to be counted.

Women running particularly innovative or successful businesses in the East Midlands region of the UK might consider entering the East Midlands Women of Worth Awards 2010.

These awards seek to help redress the imbalance in numbers of female to male entrepreneurs by rewarding the accomplishments of those women who are building successful businesses, thereby encouraging more women to startup in the market.

There are three categories:

  • Small Business of the Year (less than 10 employees)
  • Most Innovative Business
  • Business Woman of the Year

The Natwest everywoman Awards 2009 seek to give recognition to women who have achieved success in business, particularly those who have overcome adversity such as a skills gap or financial disadvantage.

Award categories are inspired by Greek goddesses:

  • The Artemis, Demeter, Athena and Hera Awards – for inspirational women running businesses, categorised by age
  • The NatWest everywoman Award – for dedication in overcoming great disadvantage
  • The everywoman Iris Award – for the use of IT and communications to achieve business growth
  • The Spirit of everywoman Award – for changing the landscape for other women in business
  • The everywoman Ambassador Award – for a great inspiration to other women in the business world

The deadline for entries is 31st July and entry is free. The short-listed finalists will then be asked to attend an interview on 15th October.
