Does your business deserve a ‘Stevie’?

If your business has achieved indisputably fantastic results over the last 12 months, there could be a Stevie waiting for you at this year’s International Business Awards.

The awards are open to businesses in all sectors and of all sizes. Entrants will compete against similar businesses to ensure that a privately owned SME has as much chance of winning a Stevie as a company in the Fortune 100.

There are around 200 categories available to enter this year, spread across 19 key areas:

Entry requirements and costs vary according to the type of award entered.

For achievements relating to individuals, teams, departments and new products, a submission of up to 500 words describing the entrant’s achievements since the beginning of 2009 is required. For individuals, this type of entry costs $225 (USD), while team achievements attract a fee of $375.

For achievements relating to advertising, websites, video or other media, the end product in question must be submitted along with a brief explanation of up to 100 words describing its objectives. For a single piece, entry costs $225, or $325 for an entire campaign.

The deadline for submissions is 12th May, bur entries will be accepted until 9th June if a $35 late fee is paid.

Have you heard of the Global Business Excellence Awards?

The Global Business Excellence Awards look to highlight the work of public or private sector businesses who are giving themselves an edge over their competitors through excellence and innovation.

Awards are given on a monthly basis, with a submission deadline set on the final working day of every month. Judging and notification of winners then takes place in two weeks at the beginning of the each month. These winners retain their title for twelve months.

Entries must include a thousand word written description of the organisation’s work and how this allows it to stand out from its competitors. There are no constraints on the type, field, size or location of businesses wishing to enter, and it is not necessary to be trading internationally in order to qualify.

Entry to the Global Business Excellence Awards costs £150 + VAT, payable by cheque or BACS.

If your company stands out amongst the best importers or exporters in the UK, you may be qualify for the prestigious International Trade Company of the Year 2010 Award.

This scheme is unique in catering specifically to the import / export sector, and invites market leading, high growth companies to compete for the overall prize in twelve regional heats.

Those who pass the early rounds will be rewarded with entry to the finals and a chance of winning the main award, presented at The House Of Lords in March 2010.

The deadlines for entries in the UK are staggered throughout October and November, and some have already passed. However, it is still possible to make the Friday 15 January 2010 deadline for the following regions:

Free the Blog! covers London’s world literature festival

Writers’ association 26 have relaunched Free the Blog! to cover the Free the Word! world literature festival.

The festival, organised by worldwide association of writers International PEN, takes place from 16-19th April at venues around London’s Southbank.

Edited by Emma Lawson, Jonathan Holt, Melissa Wolfe and Rishi Dastidar, Free the Blog! provides a home for posts about or inspired by the festival.

The International Business Awards 2009, part of the larger ‘Stevie Awards’, are open to any business of any size in the world, whether public or private, for-profit or non-profit.

There are over 40 categories available, divided into two main groups:

  • Management, Company, Product, Department, Team, & Individual Categories
  • Advertising, Web Sites, Video & Other Media Categories

The entry deadline is 15th May at a cost of between $225 and $375 (USD) per entry, depending on the category chosen. Late entries will be accepted until 12th June, at an additional cost of $35 per entry.
