Lincolnshire enterprise: secure a bright future for your business

The Epic Centre in Lincoln, UK will play host to the launch of a new initiative, Innovation Advice and Guidance – Developing a robust future for business on Friday 12th March.

The launch event takes place 10.30am – 2.15pm and is free to attend, with lunch and free parking for provided.

It will feature a keynote speech on Turning Business Adversity into Opportunities by ex-Dragon Rachel Elnaugh, as well the following presentations:

  • Beyond the recessionchallenges and opportunities for businesses in Lincolnshire with Professor Ted Fuller, University of Lincoln
  • The challenges facing our economy with Graeme Leach, Chief Economist, Institute of Directors
  • How Innovation Advice and Guidance can help your business with Professor David Rae, University of Lincoln

There will also be a networking lunch and a question and answer session with the panel.

The Innovation Advice and Guidance programme has been established to help local, forward-thinking firms fight the downturn. It is presented by the University of Lincoln, and jointly funded with its strategic partners, East Midlands Development Agency and Lincolnshire County Council.

If you are one of LinkedIn’s European members and have made some great advances in business, you might consider nominating yourself for the LinkedIn Business Awards 2010.

The judges are looking to recognise those who have mastered the possibilities of shared intentions and ideas, and who can prove that this has helped them perform exceptionally.

These awards are open to individuals and companies (depending on the category entered) of any size based in Europe who are members of LinkedIn, with the deadline for nominations falling on 7th January 2010.

Once nominations close, LinkedIn members will be able vote for the winners in each category until 1st March 2010.

There are four categories of award:

The Fast Growth Business Awards 2010 are looking to identify examples of remarkable growth over the last three years.

Winners will include new businesses that have achieved significant growth, as well as more established ones that have managed to expand their international trade or market share.

To qualify for entry, businesses must be based in the UK, have less than 500 employees, and have had revenues of at least £1 million in their last 12 months’ trading.

There are 14 categories available to enter:

  • Retail / Leisure Business of the Year

The iawards 2009 are presented in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to honour businesses in the UK’s scientific and technological sectors.

There are 13 award categories:

  • Conserving finite natural resources in the face of a growing population

The 2009 awards are open to projects which launched between 1st July 2007 and 30th June 2009, and the closing date for applications is the 16th September 2009.

If you are known for your grand and unusual ideas, the Shell LiveWIRE ‘Grand Ideas’ Awards could be for you.

Each month, a ‘Grand Ideas’ award is bestowed upon a bright young business, along with £1,000 in cash.

If you’re in your first six months of trading, and think you’ve got an innovative idea in one of the fields listed below, these awards could provide you with a welcome cash boost:

  • Guerrilla marketing
  • Viral videos or games
  • Prototypes
  • Launch parties / events
  • Legal advice for an off-the-wall idea

To enter, you must be aged between 16 and 30 and have been trading for six months or less on the deadline date of the competition. This month, that’s 31st July 2009.

Alternatively, the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2009 is an annual award with a prize of £10,000 for the winner.

The deadline for entry is 11th September 2009 and according to the organisers:

The winner of this award will need to show how they are entrepreneurial, that they have a robust business model, understand their marketplace and have a clear business development strategy.

For this award, entrants must be aged between 16-30 and have been trading for between three and 18 months.

Celebrate business excellence, innovation and success

One of the biggest business awards programmes in the UK opens its doors to national entries on Tuesday 21st April.

The National Business Awards National Programme 2009 is open to public and private sector organisations and celebrates business excellence in areas such as customer service, innovation and growth strategy.

There are nine categories available to enter:

  • The Badenoch & Clark Business of the Year Award
  • The Business Innovation of the Year Award
  • The City & Guilds Employer of the Year Award
  • The Customer Focus Award
  • The Entrepreneur of the Year Award
  • The Growth Strategy of the Year Award
  • The Health Work & Wellbeing Award for Small Business
  • The Orange Best Use of Technology in Business Award
  • The Small to Medium Sized Business of the Year Award

Registration costs £150 per category and must be completed by 3rd July. Once you are registered, you will have until 4th August 2009 to get your completed entries in.

Winners of the National Business Awards Regional Programme will go forward as finalists in the National Programme.

Prizes are awarded as follows:

  • National Finalists will receive a £1,000 Dell business-class laptop computer, plus a one-year membership to an Accredited Chamber of Commerce
  • National Winners will receive a day with Dell experts and other regional winners to share best practices, ten year membership to an Accredited Chamber of Commerce, plus £15,000 in Dell technology and services
  • The Global Winner will receive conference time with Michael Dell at the global entrepreneur’s summit, £25,000 in Dell technology and services, plus lifetime membership to the International Council for Small Business (ICSB)
